- 500 grams of high-quality beef
- 2 medium-sized coconuts (1-liter coconut milk)
- 8 shallot cloves
- 4 garlic cloves
- 100 grams red chili
- 3 cm of galangal
- 3 cm of ginger
- 1 stalk of lemongrass
- Bay leaves
- Turmeric leaves
Other than those ingredients mentioned above, you should not forget to prepare the salt, sugar, and pepper powder. Those additional ingredients are needed for you to do the taste correction so that you can get the perfect West Sumatran rendang.

The Cooking Process of West Sumatran Rendang 

After all of the ingredients are ready, then you only have to follow these simple steps below to cook the West Sumatran rendang.
  • For the start, you need to prepare the ground spices or ingredients. For this one, you only have to grind and blend the shallot, garlic, and the red chili. Adding some coriander and candlenut will add more flavor to the dish.
  • After the ground spices are ready, start to heat the coconut milk. After the coconut milk gets warm, you can add the ground spices.
  • The next thing that you need to do is adding the other ingredients such as the ginger, galangal, and the lemongrass. Make sure you mash those ingredients first before you add them to the heated seasoning.
  • Do not forget to do the taste correction by adding salt, sugar, and pepper powder. After that, heat the seasoning for some times until the oil comes out from the coconut milk.
